  • United States Paralympian Anastasia Pagonis poses for a portrait at Farmingdale School District Aquatics Center on May 23, 2024 in Farmingdale, New York.  Pagonis has autoimmune retinopathy which led her sight to decrease at the age of 11, and she lost her vision by the age of 14.  She competed in the swimming competition at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games where she won a gold and bronze medal respectively in the 400m Freestyle S11 and 200-meter Individual Medley S11.  An S11 athlete is the most severe form of visual impairment. S11 swimmers all swim with blacked-out goggles to ensure a level playing field, blocking out all light so it's like swimming with a blindfold.   She will be competing in the 400m Freestyle S11 at the 2024 Paralympic Games this summer in Paris, France.

The effort continues in Puerto Rico to remain and rebuild more than one year after the Hurricane Maria hit and devastated the island on September 20, 2017. The official number of deaths from the disaster is 2,975.

The 16-year-old Waters is currently the No. 1 player in world in women’s professional pickleball and competes in all three divisions: Women’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles, and Singles. Waters, who started playing pickleball in 2017, became the youngest professional player and tournament champion at the age of 12.

  • Team USA Para Powerlifter Garrison Redd poses for a portrait in his wheelchair in Robert E. Venable Park on April 13, 2021 in Brooklyn, New York. Redd was a standout high school football star running back. He also participated in boxing and baseball. In the Summer of 2005 he was the victim of a random shooting as an innocent bystander while standing on the corner of his home in Brownsville section of Brooklyn. The bullet burned the nerves surrounding the T-12 section of his spine. He has been paralyzed from the waist down ever since. He has competed in Wheelchair Racing, and Adaptive Field sports. In 2018 he turned his attention to Para Powerlifting and hopes to compete in the 2021 Tokyo Paralympic Games this summer.

Alan is an Amateur boxer who fought in the New York City Golden Gloves and made the Semi Finals in the Open 123lb class. He was training to compete in this year's Golden Gloves tournament but it has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.  The Gym he fights for is called the Freeport Boxing Club and has been closed by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo since March 16th due to the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.  Until the gyms are deemed safe to open he will continue to stay fit by training at home with the hope that he can box again later this year.
